M&E Services for F&B plant

Yeo Hiap Seng, the creators of Yeo’s popular packet drinks, appointed Amcon for a design and build turnkey M&E service to set up Yeo’s PET Production Line for beverages in 2013. The main component of this project is to set up a controlled temperature filling room for instant online hot filling of the beverages, as well as a 40-bar compressed air system for the PET Blow Moulding machine for the instant online hot filling process.

The components for Yeo’s Turnkey Mechanical Works for PET Production Line consists of the following:

  1. Heating and Cooling System (Chilled Water) for beverages product pasteurization process
  2. 40 Bar Compressed Air System for PET Blow Moulding Instant Hot Filling System
  3. Cold Water System c/w Multistage carbon and sand filtration system for product water
  4. Fire Fighting System

Firstly, paper packaging has to be turned into PET bottles as part of manufacturing the bottles, this is where compressed hot air is pumped into the bottle, known as “blow-molding”. This shapes the packaging into the desired shape and size, and instant cooling of the packaging is required with the use of Water Chillers.

Secondly, the product itself is warm due to the pasteurization process, at approximately 90°C to 110°C. Hence, the products need to be cooled down to 40°C for the filling process. To bring down the temperature from 90°C to 40°C, a 2-stage cooling system was required. The 1st stage involves a 1000RT cooling tower to bring down the temperature from 90°C to 60°C, and the 2nd stage involves a 300HP Water-cooled chiller to further bring down the temperature from 60°C to 40°C for the filling process.

For this project, Amcon supplied the following products:

  • One unit of 1000RT Cooling Tower
  • One unit of 300HP Water-cooled chiller
  • Various units of multiple HP air-cooled chillers for other process requirements
